 Nice Bible CD July 29, 2010

This is so much better than I ever expected. Nice clear reading that is not boring at all. Also it is so easy to find where you left off because each chapter is individually marked. Some reviews said that there were sound issues. I have not noticed a remarkable sound difference and I'm very happy that I chose this CD over others.

My Disappointment with my Bible on CD
I've been a Bible student all my life. I've read and read and listened and listened to scripture for 40 years, so I feel that I have a sense of the meaning of many passages. And while hitting .400 in the majors will get you a batting crown, when it comes to conveying the meaning of a passage of scripture, 40% just won't cut it.
Here's what I mean. Consider the following simple sentence: "Pat is my son." This can be rendered in speech a number of ways including:
1. PAT is my son.
2. Pat IS my son.
3. Pat is MY son.
4. Pat is my SON.
Let's say there was some confusion as to whether I had a son or a daughter. In that sense, versions 1, 2 and 3 just wouldn't do. Only version 4 would suffice to convey that meaning. But if I spoke version 4 to someone who had asked "which of those boys is yours?", I'd be looked at as if I had just landed from Mars.
This is where this version let me down in a big way, it obfuscates the plain meaning of a sentence at least 40% of the time.

My husband & I are very happy with the NIV audio Bible. It is very easy to listen to. We listen during our morning and afternoon work commutes and it is surprising how quickly we are getting through the CD's. I have had a difficult time reading the Bible and listening to it makes it much easier to comprehend. I would recommend this to everyone.

I bought this as a gift and am so pleased with it that I will buy one for myself. The reader's voice is pleasant, and he reads with the tone of a storyteller, making you want to hear what comes next. The introduction to each book helps to know what to expect, without opinions or conflicting teaching. Being able to move from chapter to chapter by changing tracks is also very convenient in case you want to repeat something or clarify what you heard. Excellent just for listening as you drive as well.
