Clean and Concise! June 10, 2010 Tan Kah Yong (Singapore) I am totally new to Logic Pro and this book clearly shows me how to use the software from scratch with beautiful, fully colour screen captures illustrating the points taught clearly.
Excellent Resource for Logic Pro 9 May 28, 2010 Marshall J. Ponzi (Chicago, IL USA) If you are new to Logic or want to get the most out of upgrading to logic Pro 9, this book is a very useful resource. It takes you through a logical progression of using Logic. It starts with a basic "start using Logic now" section and ultimately moves to more sophisticated recording, editing and mixing techniques. The DVD provides good project examples you work with while working thru the lessons. By the end of this book, you will have a solid grasp of how Logic works and what you can do with it. The book has also served me as a good reference going forward. In case you've read earlier versions, I've also read the Logic Pro 7 version of this book. In my opinion they are both good, but the 9 version is much clearer and answered of my questions the version 7 edition did not.
I also recommend "Apple Pro Training Series: Logic Pro 9 Advanced Music Production" by David Dvorin and Robert Brock as a good follow-on book.
Worth the Time for the Curious and Impatient May 21, 2010 Digital Slave I'm very impressed with this book. It's exactly what I needed to give me an in-depth overview. I was skeptical at first, because most books go too slowly for me. However, this book gives great lessons step-by-step, teaches some cool tricks about audio processing and music composition in general, and I liked how it provides and encourages the use of keyboard shortcuts whenever possible.
The best part is the CD which has pre-built Logic lesson files and songs. In one lesson, you open a complete song (with about 15 tracks consisting of vocals, drums, guitars, etc), and need to process and change it around. The CD makes this a complete hands-on experience--my preferred way of learning. I'm a software engineer and usually dislike step-by-step books because I think they waste time explaining what I would consider to be obvious points or common sense. This book doesn't waste time and didn't treat me like an idiot.
In response to the two-star rating I read about typos--I only found one typo so far. I also did not find any structural errors regarding the step-by-step instructions. I consider that review to be invalid and poorly-argued.
Great for first time users! May 17, 2010 Canadian Guy (Germany) Logic Pro was my first experience with any DAW and I was a little overwhelmed at the size and complexity of the software when I first installed it. If you feel the same way, then I recommend this book. It's a step-by-step guide to getting going. If you follow the lessons carefully and do your homework as recommended, you will be up and running very quickly. Highly recommended for newbies.
New to Logic May 14, 2010 Sean C. Tinlin (Avon, IN) Short and simple - if you're new to Logic, or even an intermediate to advanced user in need of a few refreshers, this product is amazing. Coming into Logic with no working knowledge of how this DAW worked, I knew I needed some sort of book or tutorial collection to get me going. A few days later, I was already producing some basic tracks on my own with an understanding as to WHY I was doing things versus just how to do them.
If you think you'll already know more than this book will teach you, grab it for you reference collection - it's worth it in every way!
