unexpectantly entertaining July 7, 2010 posey (bronx, ny) i have read just everything that nora roberts read but i never gave jd robb a second thought. i just finished reading hot rocks when the title big jack by jd robb caught my attention. i down loaded it onto my knidle and was hooked. the suspense, humor, characters and the true love between eve and roarke has won me over. i read this book in just 2 days and hated to see it end. yes the story line was predictable but it was all so real, you just knew that the murderer was a family member of crew. what we didnt know, but should have guessed from hot rocks, was that he passed the diamonds to his son. you know his son, just a kid, all kids likes toys and the rest of the diamonds was also found in some kind of toy. terrific book, great suspense and even greater romance i loved it.
Publisher should have been clearer about the republishing of this story... June 13, 2010 Thomas Duff (Portland, OR United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I see a J. D. Robb book that doesn't have an "In Death" title, I have to check and see if I've passed into an alternate reality. For better or worse, my reality is still the same one I've been dealing with for the last 50 years, and Big Jack is indeed a J. D. Robb title. Once I got into the book, I was pretty sure I had read it before, and I finally figured it out. Big Jack is the second half of a novel titled Remember When written by Nora Roberts/J. D. Robb back in 2003. Hot Rocks was the story of a diamond theft and was written by Nora Roberts. Then the second half of the book jumped forward 50 years as a case to be solved by Eve Dallas written under Robert's J. D. Robb pen name. Back in 2003, I read the entire novel as Remember When, which is why I didn't quite remember the second part of it as Big Jack.
So how did I feel about Big Jack as a stand-alone novel? It wasn't too bad. There are times when it seems like you're missing some significant parts of the story, and that's to be understood since... well, you ARE missing half the original story! Big Jack does stay true to the J. D. Robb style, albeit from seven years prior. Normally I won't knowingly read a novel over again unless it was *really* good or I don't have anything else to read. Well, I'm never out of reading material, and Big Jack was good (but not *that*) good. I think it was more the case of having gotten far enough into it before realizing the situation, and then I just figured it was worth finishing out.
If you haven't read Remember When, then Big Jack is a good installment in the Eve Dallas series. My problem is that the publisher isn't clear about the prior history of the story, and it feels a bit slimy to sell half a book that you already published around seven years ago...

J.D. Robb May 18, 2010 Ora Belle (Georgia) This was another of Nora Roberts' great JD Robb adventures. There was a surprising and unusual twist in this one whereas she did a spin off on a book of hers I read earlier which was not a JD Robb, "Hot Rocks", which was excellent.
JD ROBB NO PASSION IN THIS BOOK- OK STORY LINE April 30, 2010 D. Lawrence (IRAQ) I am a big fan of JD Robb, I was very disppointed in this book, there was no passion it seem to be a book just to get on the shelf. This is the first time I ever felt this way about any of his books. The story was good but as far as feeling the story it wasn't there. So if you just want a quick read then this book is for you.
disappointed in April 28, 2010 Eve (Corvallis, OR United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was disappointed to discover this was not a new story, as it has been previously published in "Remember When", which I already own. I feel this is deceptive on the publisher's part, but then, I should have read further in the description myself. I wouldn't have bought it. The story itself is great, as all of hers are, but the re-issuing/re-packaging of her books is a sore point with me.
