Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Review
Anger can be one of the most frustrating emotions, carrying us headlong away from ourselves and depositing us into separation and dismay. Vietnamese monk and world teacher Thich Nhat Hanh tackles this most difficult of emotions in Anger. A master at putting complex ideas into simple, colorful packages, Nhat Hanh tells us that, fundamentally, to be angry is to suffer, and that it is our responsibility to alleviate our own suffering. The way to do this is not to fight our emotions or to "let it all out" but to transform ourselves through mindfulness. Emphasizing our basic interdependence, he teaches us how to help others through deep listening and how to water the positive seeds in those around us while starving the negative seeds. Serious though lighthearted, Anger is a handbook not only for transforming anger but for living each moment beautifully. --Brian Bruya

5 out of 5 stars Every one should read   June 17, 2010
Raquel (New Mexico)
This book is wonderful! I enjoy many of Thich's writings but this book specifically profoundfully and peacefully addresses ways to combat what we are experiencing at this time, and at many levels through out the world. Both my partner and I have found deep changes happening for both of us simply by reading this book.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful breath of fresh air   May 31, 2010
Favorite One (Whevever, IA)
What a wonderful book. Thich is such a being of peace and love. Hearing him describe mindfulness in regards to anger is pure poetry. This book is easy to read, use, and very practical. It helped me out a lot and I must read it again and again!

4 out of 5 stars What our world needs to learn   May 8, 2010
Dr. Gunta M. Caldwell (Melbourne, Australia)
Hanh writes so beautifully and so peacefully. The peace radiates from the pages of his book even though he is writing about anger. It is the most accepted and yet the most destructive of emotions. He illustrates how to alleviate this anger that we so readily exhibit and so readily accept. He gives us ways to truly address it and to discover along the way how that leads to self discovery about ourselves and how by understanding this emotion can lead to letting it go so that it no longer is part of our daily life.
Dr Gunta Krumins-Caldwell author of On Silver Wings

5 out of 5 stars A master of compassionate mindfulness practice   March 5, 2010
Peter Strong (Boulder, CO, USA)
Mindfulness practice is a path in which every step is a step of compassionate engagement with every aspect of your experience, whether walking, talking with a friend or working with the suffering and anguish that exists in our minds. Anger is one of the most destructive of the emotions, yet it carries a great deal of life energy that can transform into passion and compassion when surrounded with mindfulness. Thich Nhat Hanh teaches us how to smile at every encounter with reality. I also recommend 'The Path of Mindfulness Meditation', available through Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars Very good book. But a lot of words to sift through.   February 18, 2010
Jon Howard (Hedgesville, WV USA)
This book is fantastic in that the message truly and honestly changed my entire life. Thich Nhat Hanh asks "why consumer anger?" And he talks about animal farming etc. Well, I am officially vegetarian because of this book. I no longer watch movies with any violence in them. I no longer watch boxing matches. And it has made my life much better.

People say "restating the same old thing"... Well, hello, these lessons originated with Gautama Buddha. Thich Nhat Hanh is masterful in telling the same lesson from different angles so that you get a good view of the lesson.

True, what was said in the book could possibly have been said with fewer words. But I'm willing to read the extra words for lessons that have changed my entire life.

PS: I'm now in my 3rd year of being vegetarian. So the change is not a fad.

Namaste.
