Product Description In The Four Agreements, don Miguel Ruiz reveals the source of self-limiting agreements that rob people of joy and create needless suffering. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, the Four Agreements offer a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform anyone's life to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love. These agreements are deceptively simple: Be impeccable with your word (speak with integrity; say only what you mean); Don't take anything personally (nothing others do is because of you); Don't make assumptions (find the courage to ask questions and express what you really want); Always do your best (and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret). Peter Coyote's resonant reading emphasizes the power in these remarkable tenets.
Amazon.com Review Sit at the foot of a native elder and listen as great wisdom of days long past is passed down. In The Four Agreements shamanic teacher and healer Don Miguel Ruiz exposes self-limiting beliefs and presents a simple yet effective code of personal conduct learned from his Toltec ancestors. Full of grace and simple truth, this handsomely designed book makes a lovely gift for anyone making an elementary change in life, and it reads in a voice that you would expect from an indigenous shaman. The four agreements are these: Be impeccable with your word. Don't take anything personally. Don't make assumptions. Always do your best. It's the how and why one should do these things that make The Four Agreements worth reading and remembering. --P. Randall Cohan

Amazingly concise and wise July 26, 2010 Ted R. Smith (North Dallas, TX USA) I read this book in a few hours and it changed several life-long paradigms in the way I viewed life. The best way I can say it is that I've bought this book many times now for my family and friends.
Culturally Charged Language July 17, 2010 Traveler As a student and practitioner of spirituality the Law of Attraction (LOA), I found Ruiz's The Four Agreements very much in line with other spiritual discovery teachings. While the book was very enlightening I found that the culturally charged language got in the way of what could have been a cleaner and clearer message. Several places Ruiz refers the negative thinking or the misuse of words as "black magic" and those who misuse words as "black magicians". Also, much of the tone is as if he is scolding the reader. This is in contrast to books like "the Secret" (R. Byrne) where she uses terms like "bad thoughts" and "good thoughts" which are not culturally charged and the message is delivered with love and caring. I can't recommend this book to any who understands the American language as their first book to LOA and I even hesitate to read it again. Loads of good stuff in it - the prayers at the end- but the delivery contaminates the message. It's like having your favorite meal serve on a garbage can lid.
A Work of Platitudes for Children July 16, 2010 CraftyInstigator 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The other one star reviews extensively cover the platitudinous nature of this book. From a literary standpoint this book is written on a third grade level at best. The entire book consists of repetitive, shallow messages written so poorly that such writing would not earn a passing grade as an elementary school writing assignment. If you seek wisdom, enlightenment, or entertainment look elsewhere.
life altering book July 1, 2010 Simone Y. Lervold (Sacramento, Ca) This book was given to me by a friend as I exited an abusive marriage. I have since read it several times, and bought multiple copies to give to friends as they need it. These four simple agreements can (and have in my case) completely transform a life. Highly recommended . . . (would even add a super extra sixth star if the option was there.
Good advice if you can dig through the double speak June 21, 2010 Stan Naudus 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The four pieces of advice that he gives are quite good. But, my goodness why all the mysticism? It's like buying a pizza and being told that you have received something incredibly important. Instead of a plain ole pizza, it's actually an "Alien space orb brought forth to nourish your body with truth and hope". But I guess that some people think that simple elegant ideas are 'deeper' if they are presented in a complex way.....
