The Gita is a great spiritual book. Some of the actors on this CD are pretty awful. The story is intact but hard to listen to because of the poor reading/acting.

5 out of 5 stars A fine production   October 12, 2007

I really enjoy this recording of the Bhagavad Gita. A huge amount of work went into it. I think the idea of using a woman's voice for Krishna is a very bold and creative one. God, after all, has no sex (or has both sexes). Saints are not at all identified with the physical body.

I really enjoy the music and sound effects. They are loud at times but the spoken words are still mostly quite discernable. The music adds an emotional dimension to the production that would have been difficult to achieve with voice alone. The voices are also very passionate.

I hope that many people discover and listen to this. I'm wondering why it is in the Music section at Amazon.com because it is essentially an audiobook with music added.

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful effort with one minor fault - 4.5 stars   August 8, 2007

I have been looking for a CD reading of this classic for a long time. I am amazed that this is the only complete copy I could find. That being said, it is a wonderful effort and faithfully read from a translation that I was not familiar with. Nina Shaka does an exceptional job as Krishna's voice. The producers elected to put a background musical soundtrack on the recording. Nothing wrong with that idea in itself, but the music often overpowers the reader's voice and becomes a distraction, not an enhancement. That minor quibble aside, I am very happy that this recording has been made available.
